There's much to love about Copenhagen Fashion Week: its strict sustainability requirements, envelope-pushing Scandinavian designers, and, naturally, the epic street style. As the first major city to kick off Fashion Month, CPHFW attendees set the sartorial tone for the season. This year, perhaps as a reaction to * gestures broadly *, the vibe was joyful, colorful, and full of flair.
This year's major trends were all on display, with maximalism showing up in voluminous silhouettes and layers of accessories (we could do a whole story just on Copenhagen's purse charms). There was Western fringe and gorgeous outerwear thanks to the chilly temps. What else? We scoured the streets for our favorite looks below.
There's a tendency to strictly associate Scandi style with minimalism, but that's not totally accurate. Scandinavian aesthetics favor clean lines, which can certainly mean austere but also lends itself to bold color-blocking and stripes.
Bye-bye, beanies—this winter's winning head warmers are knit bonnets. Unlike a balaclava, which pulls over your whole head, bonnets are tied under the chin (some styles could even double as scarves). It's hard to describe the appeal of this accessory previously reserved for infants and children. Is it nostalgia? An especially chilly winter? Babushka-core? Whatever it is, we're ready to be swaddled.
Blush, rogue, rosewood, wine, bubblegum—shades of pinks and reds were everywhere, which is giving us a perfect Valentine's Day mood board.
While animal prints will always be popular, cows are currently the coolest. Perhaps it's the influence of Western wear or simply a shifting of tastes, but bovines are overtaking leopards for the top spots in everything from coats to handbags. In some ways, cow prints are less loud—the neutral tones blend well into the environment. We're unsurprised to see them so prevalent in Copenhagen, as local brand Samsøe Samsøe practically called the cows home late last year when they debuted a (now sold-out) cow-hide jacket.
Aw yeah!
